The Carthage R-9 School District serves approximately 4,400 students, K-12, on ten campuses – five elementary schools, a middle school, junior high, high school and technical center (two locations).
The Carthage Schools are fully accredited by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the high school is accredited by the North Central Association. The district employs 370 certified staff members and 260 support personnel. Evaluated by a performance-based system, over 150 of the teachers have earned a master’s degree or higher.

Breakfast and lunch are served daily in all schools, and students who reside one mile or more from their school are eligible for transportation. Special services available include special education, gifted education, English Language Learners/Migrant Education, and Title I communication arts, math, and preschool services.
A wide variety of adult education classes are offered at Carthage Technical Center – North Campus, including Adult Education and Literacy preparatory courses for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Foreign language, trade/technical, medical, computer and personal enrichment courses are also offered. Students in the medical/health science field can earn certification as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNN) or Practical Nurse (PN). The assessed valuation for the Carthage R-9 School District is $282,575,519, with an operating tax levy of $2.75 and a debt service levy of $.83. The district’s preliminary budget for fiscal year 2013-14 reflects $44,707,016 in projected revenues.
Economic and demographic forecasts indicate that the district will continue to grow as it has for each of the past several years.
