American Enterprise Project

FBLA members working with the fourth gradersThe American Enterprise Project is to show the fourth graders the hardships and the enormous amount of planning it takes to manage a small business and to teach them a little about economics. This activity was both an in and out of class activity which helped them learn that organization, planning, and managing their time are key to success.

As a Future Business Leaders of America we do a project with the fourth graders at Mark Twain Elementary to teach them a little about economics. This is called our American Enterprise Project. This Project takes about a week to do, during this week we split up into five groups, where we make a poster to advertise our product that we are making, then we plan what we want to sell, we do worksheets over profits and loss, and we make our products. After that the moment that every fourth grader waits for, we give them fake money to go buy other groups' products and they sell what they made. A few things that each group had to take in account of were the profits compared to expenses, practicality of their product or service, and the time it took to make the product.
