Carthage Schools-Inspiring Excellence!

Welcome to Mark Twain Elementary School!  We are looking forward to an exciting and meaningful school year.  At Mark Twain, we recognize individual talents and skills and promote student achievement through unity of purpose, empowerment with responsibilities and building on strengths.  We hope through a cooperative effort by our teachers, principal, parents, students, and members of our Carthage community, this school year will be one of the school's very best.  The 1400 block of South Main Street has been a center of educational achievement for more than a century.  It’s record of service in the cause of learning began in 1888, when the first school building on the site was completed. That was the home of the Carthage Collegiate Institute, a building which remained there until it was raised in 1916 to make way for the present Mark Twain Elementary School, which opened in 1917. Our students are encouraged to recognize and develop to their full potential and to become lifelong learners and members of our world community.

We welcome your interest and invite you into our web page.

Congratulations to Mrs. Bridget Triplett a 2012-2013 recipient of the Golden Key Award.!  Mark Twain staff and students are very proud of you!

Carthage School Board President Dr. Mark Westhoff with the "Do the Right Thing" award winners: Olivia Bourgault, and her sister, Ava.

Congratulations to Ava and Olivia Bourgault, recipients of the Carthage School Board’s “Do the Right Thing Award.”  The girls celebrated their birthdays at the skating rink with friends and family.  Instead of gifts, the girls asked for donations of food items to be donated to the district’s backpack program.  Ava is a first grader in Mrs. Denney’s class and Olivia is a third grader in Mrs. McBride’s class.  We are so proud of you!
